Likely viral conjunctivitis

A watery red eye, often with a recent cold or contact with someone who had a red eye.

Viral conjunctivitis usually settles by itself over 1–2 weeks. Antibiotic drops do not help. Lubricating drops and cool compresses can ease discomfort. It is contagious — wash hands often, don't share towels, and stay off contact lenses until the eye is fully clear.

Important

  • Seek assessment if vision changes, pain develops, light sensitivity begins, or symptoms have not improved after 7 days.
