The eye-symptom assessment on conjunctivitis.store is a triage aid. It uses a decision tree based on established clinical red-flag criteria to check whether your symptoms may need urgent care, and to suggest categories of over-the-counter product that are generally suitable for lower-risk symptoms in your region.

The assessment cannot examine your eye, cannot see visual clues a clinician would notice, and cannot account for every medical history detail. Different eye conditions can produce very similar symptoms. Even trained clinicians can find it difficult to distinguish between them based on symptoms alone.

Get urgent professional help — GP, NHS 111, optometrist, eye casualty, or A&E — if you have any change in vision, moderate or severe eye pain, unusual sensitivity to light, an injury or chemical exposure, a red or painful eye while wearing contact lenses, or if symptoms worsen or last longer than a week.

We do not recommend steroid-containing eye drops or "redness-removing" vasoconstrictor drops through this assessment. If a bacterial infection is suspected, we route to a pharmacist or clinician rather than directly to antibiotic eye drops.
