Likely allergic conjunctivitis

Itching in both eyes with a watery or stringy discharge — often alongside sneezing, pollen, pets or dust.

Cool compresses and lubricating drops help wash allergens out of the eye. Antihistamine or dual-action allergy eye drops can reduce itching; oral antihistamines may help when nose/throat symptoms are also present. A pharmacist can confirm the right product for age, pregnancy and contact-lens use.

Important

  • Try to identify and reduce the trigger where possible.
  • See a clinician if symptoms persist beyond a couple of weeks or vision changes.
